Stars show for Carbon/Silicon

Sienna Miller, Rhys Ifans, Manics and Hard Fi at London gig

Carbon/Silicon news, reviews, video and tour dates
Add Carbon/Silicon to MyNME
Carbon/Silicon, the band fronted by legendary punks Mick Jones and Tony James, were joined by a host of stars including Sienna Miller, James Dean Bradfield and Rhys Ifans on Friday (Febuary 29) at their club night in London.

The band, who are set to head off to America this week for a 21 date tour, have been playing a Friday night residency, called Carbon Casino, at the Inn On The Green, in Ladbroke Grove, since mid-January. The evening sees a host of support acts play then Carbon/Silicon take to the stage. Carbon Silicon choose their set-list according to the spins on a Wheel Of Fortune.

On Friday, the seventh club night, tracks chosen included (fittingly) The Clash's 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go' - as spun by Welsh actor Ifans - plus new single 'Why Do Men Fight?'. Boho chic actress Sienna Miller, Hard-Fi's Richard Archer, veteran punk poet John Cooper Clark and Scouse rock hero Pete Wylie were also on hand to offer spins.

There was a Sopranos theme to the night and when took to the stage to play the show's theme tune 'Woke Up This Morning' they werew joined by the song's writers Alabama Three.

Support on the night came from 'American History X' director Tony Kaye who played with an acoustic set, Hello Kitty and new NME Godlike Genius winner James Dean Bradfield who, along with Tony James covered ' 'Sheena is a Punk Rocker'.

Last night's 'Lucky 7' at the Carbon Casino was the most enjoyable night i have had for such a l long ,long time. It was filled to the brim with the most diverse and entertaining acts .. nearly 7 hours of music .A musical extravaganza which i can't believe went without a hitch. There were so many bands and acts that i certainly can't remember all the names so i am hoping someone can help me out with that.
I was sober before anyone asks.!!! The only way we could get there on time was if we drove into Ladbrooke Grove and then drive across London after the night and i stay sober .So it was a sacrifice, but boy was it worth it.
The venue was quiet early on . A small queue was forming outside about 4.30 so we got in easily .Everyone was eager to find out who the guests were .I had already sussed Alabama 3 ,well the clue on the forum 'The Sopranos in Vegas" theme gave it away!!.
Smoking does have it's advantages you know!!!! as we were sat chatting on the smoking balcony to Larry Love (vocals)Devlin Love (vocals)Harpo Strangelove and they confirmed they were but had a gig later that night headlining at the Brixton Jamm so were going to go along after they had done the casino(i don't know if they made it as they didn't finish up till about 2.30 at the casino)

Various assorted musicians kept appearing at the venue also most of the support acts over the past few weeks seemed to be present. We couldn't believe they were all going to play....but they did in some form or another. Also a few celebs in the mix too. Didn't know the boys were so well connected.!!!! A few Clash faces as per usual Robin Crocker( who is bemused that so many people still want his photo) Pockets,Don Letts,Chris Salewicz,,Julian Yewdall (101ers,lovely chap) etc.Good to see all the support from the bands friends too.
Back to the bands (else i will be accused of name dropping )Mick played with at least 4 bands/acts that i saw. Tony and Leo with a couple and Dom moonlighted with at least 3.Some bands were' made up bands' with there own guest vocalist or poached bass player. It was amazing to witness .

Two rock bands opened up in quick succession and i have totally forgot their names but found them really entertaining. Hoping some footage will turn up to jog my memory. I believe one was Chris Salewicz's sons band.

An acoustic set went down really well with American History X director Tony Kaye and Mick Jones .
Two records courtesy of Gary Crowly and it was time for a rocking set from a band fronted by Gaz Mayell from The Trojans i don't know anything about these guys and only caught the last song.

I was blown away with a band called 'Kitty ,Daisy and Lewis'. Brothers and sisters with the addition of mum and dad.Take my advice and check these guys out .Such talent is rare these days. They swapped instruments after every song and were a joy to listen too.So good that they were asked to play a couple more.

John Byrne (Mr cigarette man) and Adam Masterson ( usually solo )paired up and supported by assorted musicians did a couple of songs ending with a superb version of Waterloo sunset.
Taurus Trakker did a tight set of original songs and Mick joined them itoo. A joy to watch as Mick really loves to play with these guys , you can see it on his face.
John Cooper Clark put in an appearance and did the usual witty poems this guy has such a dry wit and was on top form.

Pete Wylie did his classic 'come back' and a Ramones classic Sheena is.. with Manic street Preachers front man James Dean Bradfield ,TJ and Gary and Dan from BAD .

The fantastic Rotting hill gang played a brilliant set .They really are something a bit different from the norm . Their sound a mix of dub ,rap and rock. This week they were re-joined by the fabulous female vocalist (she wasn't there last week) i have seen these guys every time i have been to the residency and adore them .I cant find any info about them anywhere so if anyone knows where they play please let me know.

The Carbs show started with a raffle with prizes of signed T shirts, Champagne, a Corgi James Bond Aston Martin and a complete boxed set of "The Sopranos" (won by Julian Yewdall), raffle winners were drawn by Richard Archer, James Dean Bradfield, Don Letts, John Cooper Clarke and Gaz Mayall.

The band opened with Magic Suitcase before revealing the wheel of fortune spinning wheel which was to decide the set list for the night.

Set list was.....

magic suitcase

Roadrunner - wheel spun by the landlady

War on Culture - wheel spun by audience member

The News - wheel spun by Spizz he was determined to get up there

Reason to Believe - wheel spun by Sienna Miller

A National Anthem - wheel spun by audience member

The Truth - wheel spun by Micky P

Soylent Green - wheel spun by Penelope ( TJ 's Mrs)

I Loved You - wheel spun by Iliana (artist who painted the mural on the venue wall a few weeks back)

Gangs of England - wheel spun by Oleg Tolstoy: Band photographer

Oilwell - wheel spun by Miranda (Mick's Mrs)

Should I Stay or Should I Go - wheel spun by Rhys Ifans

Then the' piece de resistance 'the 'Alabama 3' were introduced and the band Joined the Carbs for a magical 'Woke up this morning' It truly was sensational .

We wanted more and got it ... an encore with nearly every Artist joining the band on stage before the show finished with Why do Men Fight?

I am going to miss those Friday nights.
